Dr Tomas Madura is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon specialising in hand and peripheral nerve surgery. He has been working at the Birmingham Hand Centre and the Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Injury Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham since 2017. His clinical focus includes the treatment of brachial plexus injuries, nerve compressions, neuromas, nerve tumours, and nerve-related pain. He is experienced in microsurgical reconstruction of the upper limb, including muscle transfers to restore movement and function.

Dr Madura obtained his Doctor of Medicine with high honours from the University of P. J. Safarik in Slovakia in 1999. He went on to complete a PhD in Neurobiology at Osaka University in Japan in 2005, with research focused on spinal cord and nerve repair. His surgical training took place in Manchester from 2006 to 2016, followed by specialist fellowships in reconstructive microsurgery and brachial plexus surgery in Japan, and peripheral nerve and hand surgery in Birmingham. He also earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Hand Surgery from the British Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2018.

With more than 20 years of research experience, Dr Madura has contributed significantly to advancements in the treatment of peripheral nerve injuries and muscle paralysis. He is actively involved in clinical research and serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing, University of Birmingham. In addition, he works as a professional expert for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, offering guidance on new surgical treatments.

Dr Madura is fluent in English, Slovak, Russian, and Japanese. He maintains active membership in multiple professional bodies including the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the Migraine Surgery Society. His approach to patient care is collaborative, working alongside multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive treatment tailored to each patient’s needs.
