    Dr Vias Markides is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital, treating both NHS and private patients. He graduated from Imperial College London in 1992 with distinction in all subjects and was awarded the University of London Gold Medal. Dr Markides completed his training at several prestigious teaching centres in London, including St Mary’s, St Thomas’, and Hammersmith hospitals.

    In 2002, Dr Markides was appointed as a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital. From 2005 to 2014, he led the arrhythmia service at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals, transforming it into the largest service of its kind in the UK. Since October 2014, he has been the Divisional Director of the Heart Division at Royal Brompton Hospital and was appointed deputy Medical Director for the Trust in 2019.

    Dr Markides specialises in the management of all arrhythmias, with a particular focus on the ablation of complex arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. He is also highly skilled in the implantation of pacemakers, ICDs, and devices for cardiac resynchronisation.

    In addition to his clinical work, Dr Markides is dedicated to education in his field. He has contributed to the National Service Framework for CHD and serves as an honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College London. He has also held leadership roles in the Northwest London Cardiovascular and Stroke Network, including clinical lead for arrhythmias/devices and overall leadership for cardiovascular services.

    Dr Markides has a keen clinical and research interest in the individualised mapping of atrial fibrillation to guide therapy and improve patient outcomes.
