About Mr Vikkas Kapoor
GMC number: 4543763
Year qualified: 1991
Place of primary qualification: Banaras Hindu University Institute of Medical Sciences Varanasi
Mr Vik Kapoor is an experienced and internationally renowned spinal surgeon with 34 years of medical practice, including more than 17 years as a consultant in the North West. He received multidisciplinary and sub-specialist training from leading neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons across the UK, giving him comprehensive expertise in spinal care.
He treats an extensive range of spinal conditions, covering areas from the neck and upper back through to the lower back and coccyx. He is particularly known for his expertise in minimally invasive (keyhole) spinal surgery, which provides patients with quicker recovery and reduced postoperative discomfort compared to traditional open techniques.
While highly skilled in advanced surgical approaches, he takes a holistic view—many of the cases he manages are best helped through non-surgical methods. Following consultation, he collaborates closely with teams of specialist physiotherapists, chiropractors, pain consultants, and other colleagues to establish the optimal treatment plan for each patient.
He serves as the most senior spinal surgeon and clinical lead at the NHS facility in Stockport, overseeing complex spinal cases and leading service delivery. In his academic role within a clinical training programme, he maintains a leading role in the continual advancement of surgical practice for complex spinal conditions.
He regularly trains surgeons internationally in the latest spinal techniques and is highly regarded among his peers—often described as a “surgeon’s surgeon”, reflecting the trust other medical professionals place in his surgical abilities.
His subspecialties include spinal surgery, sports injury treatment, and trauma surgery. He performs a wide range of procedures such as spinal decompression, spinal fusion, discectomy, complex revision spinal surgery, artificial disc replacement, kyphoplasty, microdiscectomy, nerve root injections, minimally invasive disc surgery, facet joint injections, sciatica surgery, spinal deformity correction, thoracic surgery, epidural procedures.
