Dr Amit Gera is a consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, part of the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. He serves as the lead clinician for upper gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary cancer and heads the viral hepatitis service.
Dr Gera graduated with distinction from Guy's, King's and St Thomas' School of Medicine in 2000. He then pursued specialist training in gastroenterology, focusing on liver diseases. His advanced training includes viral hepatitis, hepatobiliary medicine, transplantation, and critical care at the Liver Unit at King's College Hospital.
In 2010, Dr Gera was awarded an endoscopy fellowship by the British Society of Gastroenterology, allowing him to train in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at The Medical University of South Carolina, USA. He has since been the training programme director for the South Thames Gastroenterology training scheme and has overseen the regional gastroenterology teaching programme.
Dr Gera's areas of expertise include endoscopy, hepatobiliary medicine, and inflammatory bowel disease. He is proficient in various procedures such as colonoscopy, endoscopy, and flexible sigmoidoscopy.
