Dr Andrew Sykes is a consultant clinical oncologist at The Christie. He graduated in medicine from the University of Birmingham in 1989, before moving to Manchester to train in oncology. He gained his fellowship with the Royal College of Radiologists in 1996. Dr Sykes was appointed as a consultant at The Christie in 1997 and is currently the clinical director of the Department of Clinical Oncology.
Dr Sykes specialises in treating head and neck cancer with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He also provides radiotherapy support for the melanoma team. Alongside his clinical work, he is actively involved in research, with a particular interest in radiotherapy and chemotherapy for head and neck cancer, and electro-chemotherapy.
Currently, Dr Sykes is the chairman of the Head and Neck Clinical Subgroup for the Greater Manchester & Cheshire Cancer Research Network. His areas of expertise include chemotherapy, radiotherapy, head and neck cancer, and skin cancer.
