    About Mr Debashis Ghosh

    GMC number: 4657664

    Year qualified: 1992

Place of primary qualification: Bombay University

Debashis Ghosh is a consultant breast surgeon based in London. He has been actively involved in breast surgery research, including the pioneering use of a portable gamma camera for sentinel node biopsies. As a member of the Breast Team at the Royal Free Hospital and UCL Medical School, he participates in trials involving intraoperative radiotherapy, radioactive iodine, and seed localisation. Currently, he is working on the use of fluorescence in cancer surgery. He is also the co-author of the chapter on breast and oncoplastic surgery in Kirk’s Operative Surgery.

Mr Ghosh sees both NHS and private patients in a one-stop breast clinic setting. All his consultations for breast cancer are conducted in world-class facilities where radiology and pathology services are available during the same consultation. He is always accompanied by a specialist breast care nurse who provides counselling and meets the holistic needs of patients.

Genetic tests for the risks of breast cancer, specifically for BRCA genetic defects, are available for suitable patients. All patients undergoing sentinel node biopsy will have intraoperative testing for the presence of cancer cells. OSNA and imprint cytology are performed routinely, which can help avoid the need for multiple operations in certain cases.

All patient management is discussed at multi-disciplinary team meetings attended by leading radiologists, oncologists, and pathologists in London.
