Professor Deena Harji is a distinguished Consultant Robotic and Colorectal Surgeon based in Manchester. She is renowned for her expertise in colorectal cancer management and is a pioneer in the use of robotic surgery, having performed over 200 robotic rectal resections. Her approach leverages advanced digital technology to enhance patient outcomes, ensuring precision and reduced surgical trauma.
Professor Harji completed her medical studies at the University of Birmingham and pursued basic surgical training in the West Midlands. She furthered her research at the John Goligher Colorectal Unit in Leeds, earning a PhD in 2017. Her advanced surgical training included specialisation in pelvic exenteration and robotic surgery. She has been recognised with prestigious awards such as the Intercollegiate ASGBI Gold Medal and the Young Coloproctologist of the Year.
In 2021, Professor Harji was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She also holds the position of Associate Professor of Surgical Trials at the University of Leeds and is an NIHR Advanced Fellow.
