Mr Efthymios Ypsilantis is a Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in laparoscopic and colorectal surgery. His NHS practice is based at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Princess Royal University Hospital site in Orpington. Mr Ypsilantis qualified from the Medical School of Athens, Greece, in 1999 and completed his core surgical training in the East of England. He became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2006.

Mr Ypsilantis has extensive experience in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, having trained at prestigious institutions such as King’s College Hospital, Medway Hospital, and Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals. He further honed his skills with a Post-CCT Fellowship at St Mark’s Hospital in 2016, focusing on colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor diseases, intestinal failure, and complex abdominal surgery.

He is accredited by JAG for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and holds multiple academic qualifications, including an MSc in Perioperative Care from Cardiff University and an MS in Coloproctology from the University of East Anglia. Mr Ypsilantis is also a Fellow of the European Board of Coloproctology.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Ypsilantis is a keen trainer and serves as the Training Faculty Lead and College Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. His areas of expertise include abdominal wall reconstruction, bowel surgery, colonoscopy, and haemorrhoid surgery. He treats conditions such as Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, and faecal incontinence.
