About Mr Gautam Mehra

Mr Gautam Mehra is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, also seeing patients privately at The London Bridge Hospital. He graduated in 1996 and completed core training in gynaecology at various London tertiary centres. In 2012, he completed advanced training in complex gynaecological pelvic surgery and was appointed a Consultant in 2014.

Mr Mehra leads the Rapid-Access one-stop outpatient clinic and the gynaecology group in the genetic clinic for BRCA mutation. He specialises in fertility-preserving options for gynaecological cancers and has a keen interest in robotic surgery, pursuing a PhD in robotics at King's College. He introduced the robotic programme at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital and is the lead for robotic surgery in Gynaecology.

His research areas include laparoscopic surgery in gynaecology, new techniques of sentinel lymph node detection, and fertility-preserving treatments. He was the Principal Investigator for the 100K Genome research project and currently leads the PROTECTOR multicentric research trial. Mr Mehra has published extensively and co-authored a textbook on laparoscopic surgery.

Accredited with BSCCP since 2007, Mr Mehra advises on cervical smears and treatment of abnormal cervical cells. He is a member of numerous medical societies, including the British Gynaecological Cancer Society and the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology. He was awarded the International Fellowship for Indian College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in 2012 and is the President of the London Chapter for FOGSI.

Mr Mehra is an invited speaker at international scientific meetings and has trained senior consultants and trainees through live surgical workshops. He is faculty on several training courses in Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology in the UK and abroad, and currently preceptor for the Advanced Training Skills Module in Gynaecological Oncology in London.
