Professor George Mikhaeel is a distinguished Professor of Radiation Oncology at King's College London and a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. He has been serving in these roles since 2001, bringing over two decades of expertise to the field of oncology.
Professor Mikhaeel specialises in the treatment of lymphoma, utilising both chemotherapy and radiotherapy. His clinical practice is exclusively focused on haematological malignancies, which are less common and require a high level of specialisation and substantial clinical experience. He is renowned for his extensive experience in advanced radiotherapy techniques for treating these conditions.
Professor Mikhaeel's research has led to groundbreaking advancements in the treatment of lymphoma patients with radiotherapy. He has pioneered new methods that leverage the latest in radiotherapy technology and imaging advances. One notable innovation is the combination of an arc technique and deep inspiration breath-hold (DIBH) with image-guided delivery, which enhances the precision of radiation targeting while minimising exposure to healthy tissues.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Professor Mikhaeel is a founding member of the International Lymphoma Radiation Oncology Group (ILROG) and serves on its steering and executive committees. He also chairs the haematology track for the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting scientific committee and is a reviewer for the European Society of Radiation Oncology (ESTRO). Nationally, he chairs the UK Lymphoma Radiotherapy Group (UK-LRG) steering committee.
Professor Mikhaeel has lectured in more than 15 countries and has numerous publications in the field, including four influential international guidelines. His contributions have significantly shaped the standards and practices in the treatment of haematological malignancies worldwide.
