Mr Georgios Oikonomou is a distinguished consultant head and neck oncology surgeon at Addenbrooke's Hospital. He earned his MD from the University of Ioannina, Greece, in 2005 and subsequently served as a military doctor in the Hellenic Army. Mr Oikonomou has extensive expertise in children's otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery, and rare otorhinolaryngology diseases, having trained under Professor Garabedian at the Children's Hospital Armand Trousseau in France.
In 2015, Mr Oikonomou joined St George's University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a head and neck specialist registrar. During his tenure, he performed laryngeal, parotid, and thyroid surgeries. He further honed his skills in skull base, otology, and voice surgery before becoming an advanced fellow in head and neck surgery. He then spent a year as a senior clinical fellow in advanced head and neck surgery at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
Mr Oikonomou's areas of expertise include head and neck oncology, laryngeal surgery, and thyroid surgery. He is particularly interested in the immunophenotype of stem cells and the epithelial-mesenchymal conversion phenomenon in head and neck carcinomas. His dedication to advancing medical knowledge is evident in his ongoing PhD on head and neck oncology.
