Dr Irfan Ahmed is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine in London. He assesses sports injuries and musculoskeletal pain, helping patients plan recovery and return to exercise and activity.

His clinical interests include joint, muscle and ligament pain, stress fractures, musculoskeletal ultrasound and targeted injection therapies. His treatments include hyaluronic acid, platelet-rich plasma and steroid injections where appropriate.

In his NHS work, Dr Ahmed has developed and published pathways for sports injury diagnosis, exertional rhabdomyolysis, ultrasound, injection therapies and MRI techniques. He works with radiologists, orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists and other medical specialists when coordinating care.

His educational work includes the MSK Playbook series published through the British Journal of Sports Medicine Blog. He received a BASEM Travelling Fellowship in 2023 and an International Clinical Scholar Award from the American College of Sports Medicine in 2021. His HCA practice is across the London Bridge Hospital network.
