Ms Jajini Varghese is an expert in plastic surgery and breast oncology. Ms Varghese is a highly skilled medical specialist with dual training in plastic surgery and breast oncology surgery. She completed her surgical training on the Pan-Thames rotation, gaining extensive experience at some of London's busiest and largest hospitals, including St Barts Hospital, Royal Free Hospital, and Guys and St Thomas Hospital. Prior to her surgical training, Ms Varghese earned a PhD in the genetics of breast cancer from the University of Cambridge, supported by full scholarships.
Currently, Ms Varghese is based at the London Breast Institute and Princess Grace Hospital. She also holds an honorary clinical lecturer position at University College London. Her areas of expertise include applying the latest plastic surgical techniques to improve cosmetic outcomes following cancer removal, often performed simultaneously with the cancer operation. Additionally, she offers genetic testing to assess future breast cancer risk and provides personalised preventative and early detection strategies.
Ms Varghese is deeply committed to patient-centred care, ensuring that all available options are discussed and surgeries are tailored to each patient's needs. Her dedication to research is evident as she serves as the principal investigator on several national and international trials and has an extensive list of publications. She is an active member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), and the Association of Breast Surgery (ABS). Her contributions to the field have been recognised with the Outstanding Young Person of the Year international award by JCI.
In her academic role at University College London, Ms Varghese lectures on the Burns, Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgery MSc course and leads the breast oncoplastic section. She supervises MSc students and serves as an examiner for both MSc and PhD courses. Additionally, she is the current specialty lead for mainstreaming breast cancer in the North London Genomics (GLH) hub.
Outside of her professional life, Ms Varghese enjoys travelling and hosting dinner parties with family and friends. She finds her work extremely fulfilling and is passionate about making a positive impact on her patients' lives.
