Mr Karthik Karuppaiah is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Upper Limb Surgeon at Kings College Hospital, London, where he has worked since 2014. He also provides tertiary referral service for complex upper-limb injuries. His special interests are upper limb, Dupuytren’s disease, hand and wrist, elbow, shoulder and fractures. He has comprehensive clinical expertise in evaluation and management of sports injuries, arthritis, and nerve and tendon problems in the upper limb. He recommends non-surgical management whereever possible and uses surgery only as the last resort. His master’s degree on Evidence Based Medicine in Orthopaedics trained him to only provide the most relevant and cutting-edge care.
Mr Karuppaiah had his orthopaedic training at Ganga Hospital, India and Kings’ College Hospital, London. He also trained at various hospitals in southeast London and northeast England. He completed his master’s degrees in orthopaedics from the Teesside University, UK and Madras Medical College, India. He is a member and fellow of Royal College of Surgeons.
Mr Karuppaiah lectures both nationally and internationally at leading conferences and training courses. He trains the next generation of surgeons by teaching modern orthopedic techniques to undergraduate students at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical Schools. He is a faculty at Kings FRCS intense revision course, Hand surgery FRCS (Orth) revision course and Medway Upper-limb course. He is a clinical and educational supervisor for foundation year and specialty training doctors.
Mr Karuppaiah has a flourishing academic career and has published more than 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has won several accolades in upper-limb research both at the national and international levels. His research work is cited by numerous authors, journals and orthopedic textbooks. He is an editor or reviewer of various international scientific orthopaedic journals.
