Mr Edmund Fitzgerald O’Connor is a Consultant Plastic, Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgeon at Guys & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in complex trauma and cancer reconstruction. He also has a broad range of practice covering general plastic surgery, breast reconstruction, hand surgery, post weight loss surgery and skin cancer surgery. He is one of only a few reconstructive surgeons in the country who deal with diabetic foot reconstruction. He carries out private clinics at both St Thomas’ Hospital and BMI The Blackheath Hospital, which makes his clinics easily accessible for patients across the London area. His patients find him safe, reassuring, professional and personable.
Mr Fitzgerald O’Connor qualified with an undergraduate medical degree from St Georges University of London with Merit awards in 2008 and, following his basic surgical training, went on to carry out his higher surgical training on the Pan Thames Plastic Surgery Training Programme, where he ranked first out of 275 trainees. He then completed microsurgical fellowships at the Royal London Hospital & Royal Perth Hospital in Australia, focusing on trauma reconstruction, breast reconstruction, hand surgery and aesthetic surgery. He became a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Australia, earning valuable experience before returning to the UK to develop the plastic surgery services at Kings & St Thomas’. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons England for Plastic Surgery in 2016.
Mr Fitzgerald O’Connor is passionate about research and teaching. He holds a substantive Senior Clinical Lecturer position at the Queen Mary’s University of London. He is the course lead for the Master's programme in Reconstructive Microsurgery as well as faculty for the M.Sc in Aesthetic Medicine. He has published over 30 peer review articles and presented in more than 50 international conferences.
