Dr Mahmoud Alkholany is a consultant in interventional pain management and neuromodulation, practising in NHS and independent services in north-west England. He treats chronic spinal, nerve and joint pain, including low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, painful diabetic neuropathy and post-herpetic neuralgia.
His interests also include fibromyalgia, headache, facial pain and cancer-related pain. He has specialist expertise in neuromodulation for pain that has not responded to conventional treatment, including failed back surgery syndrome and neuropathic pain. His practice includes X-ray and ultrasound-guided pain procedures within individual management plans.
Dr Alkholany graduated from Ain Shams University in Cairo in 2005. He completed pain medicine training and fellowships at centres in Manchester, Salford, Lancashire and Liverpool, followed by a neuromodulation fellowship at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital.
His qualifications include a Master's in Anaesthesia, FRCA, the European Diploma of Intensive Care Medicine, FFPMRCA and a postgraduate certificate in medical education. He has an interest in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and serves as a faculty tutor for pain training within his NHS practice.
