Since 2002, Mr Marc E Laniado has been a Consultant Urologist in London and the Thames Valley region. He is the prostate cancer lead clinician for East Berkshire and the multidisciplinary urological cancer lead, Mr Laniado is a full-time clinician, focused on the diagnosis and treatment of men with prostate problems, and works 6 days a week solely in this pursuit without distraction by university or other academic activities. He concentrates his care in two areas: urinary symptoms in men and the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.

Mr Laniado has developed and delivers minimally-invasive techniques daily that have significantly helped his patients. He provides customised therapies alleviating urinary symptoms or reducing the chance of dying from prostate cancer while preserving erections, ejaculation and bladder control if possible.
Marc Laniado chooses the least invasive treatment that can provide the treatment that men need. For prostate cancer, the first choice is active surveillance, which means close monitoring, then focal therapy (a.k.a. partial ablation) to treat just that part of the prostate with cancer, and then Retzius-sparing prostatectomy with intraoperative frozen section (NeuroSAFE) for maximum nerve sparing if too much of the prostate is affected and the whole-gland needs to be dealt with. If the tumour has spread likely into the lymph nodes, then he performs an extended lymphadenectomy to remove cancer maximally.
Marc Laniado performs a high volume of robotic prostatectomies annually (usually 2 to 3 per week) utilising the best techniques for preservation of continence and erections (Retzius-sparing approach, full functional urethral length preservation, and nerve-sparing). He uses a suprapubic catheter rather than a urethral catheter to improve the comfort of patients after surgery.
Mr Laniado graduated from Guy's Hospital Medical School in 1989, having gained a BSc in physiology. Following specialist urology training in London, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Urology) in 2000, going on to complete his MD in prostate cancer research, Fellow of the European Board of Urology in 2002 and international member of the American Urological Association. Before taking up his career as a consultant, he extended his knowledge and skills on a Visiting Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in the USA, where he trained in minimally-invasive surgical techniques. He started performing laparoscopic prostatectomies in 2005 and moved onto the robotic approach in 2008.
BPH (prostate enlargement): improving symptoms & preserving sexual function (drugs, UroLift, Rezum, laser prostatectomy [HoLEP])
Prostate cancer diagnosis: multiparametric MRI and MRI-targeted transperineal prostate biopsies
Genomic Tests: Prolaris and SelectMDx
Prostate cancer treatment: active surveillance, focal therapy, HIFU, Retzius-sparing, nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy (NeuroSAFE), brachytherapy.
