    About Mr Matay Arsan

    Mr Matay Arsan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and the Lead Hand Surgeon at Homerton University Hospital in the London Borough of Hackney. He specialises in all aspects of the treatment of hand and wrist disorders as well as treatment of the injured elbow. He uses cutting-edge techniques such as the WALANT (Wide Awake Local Anaesthetics No Tourniquet) as well as evidence-based treatments and minimally invasive (including keyhole) surgery to achieve excellent surgical outcomes. He involves his patients in not only decision making but also in the post-operative treatment.

    Mr Arsan grew up in the Netherlands and graduated in medicine from the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam before completing his Trauma & Orthopaedic surgical training in Germany. He then pursued an intensive three-year hand surgery training at the Hand Zentrum Lingen, under the supervision of Dr M. Nicoloff, a pioneering total-wrist arthroplasty surgeon in Germany. He was then appointed Lead Hand Surgeon of the Trauma & Orthopaedics Department of St. Bonifatius Hospital. He gained experience working in the academic teaching hospitals of North Rhine-Westphalia, affiliated to the University of Münster, where he was involved in trauma and management of high/low-velocity injuries. He has been a substantive Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2012.

    Mr Arsan is a member of British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH), British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association (BOSTAA), British Medical Association (BMA), German Society for Hand Surgery (DGH) and German Society for Orthopaedics & Trauma (DGOU).
