About Dr Matthew Brown
Dr Matthew Brown is a consultant in pain medicine and anaesthetics at the Royal Marsden Hospital. He trained at King's College London, graduating with distinction. During his medical studies, he received several prestigious awards, including the War Memorial and Wolfson Foundation Scholarships and a University of London Convocation Award.
Dr Brown completed his anaesthetic training at the Imperial School of Anaesthesia in London. To pursue his interest in clinical research, he secured a place on the National Institute for Health Research's Academic Clinical Fellowship Programme. This opportunity allowed him to conduct innovative, award-winning research into pain at both Imperial College and King's College, London.
Dr Brown's clinical training in pain medicine was undertaken at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. This provided him with a comprehensive foundation in diagnosing and managing a wide range of pain conditions. He later completed a Doctor of Medicine at the Institute of Cancer Research, becoming the first anaesthetist in the Institute's history to do so.
Dr Brown adopts a holistic approach to managing cancer-related pain, employing various treatments to alleviate symptoms and enhance functional levels. His areas of interest and expertise include chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, persistent post-surgical pain, neuropathic pain, visceral pain, painful bone metastases, musculoskeletal pain, pain in cancer survivors, survivor wellness and rehabilitation, and acupuncture for both pain and hot flushes related to treatment. He is also skilled in opioid medication management.
Dr Brown offers a range of medical tests and treatments, including acupuncture, facial acupuncture, opioid management, and video consultations. He is dedicated to improving the quality of life for his patients through comprehensive pain management and innovative treatment strategies.
Dr Brown has been with the Royal Marsden Hospital since his appointment and continues to contribute significantly to the field of pain medicine and anaesthetics. His commitment to patient care and clinical research makes him a leading specialist in his field.
