Mr Nirooshun Rajendran is an Honorary Associate Professor at the Blizard Institute at Queen Mary's University of London and a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. He also serves as the Lead for Colorectal Surgery and Robotic Surgery at the same institution.
Mr Rajendran qualified from St George's Medical School, University of London in 2001. He completed his basic surgical training at St George's Hospital and was awarded an MD (Res) in 2011 for his research on inflammatory bowel disease. His higher surgical training was undertaken at the South West Thames rotation in the London Deanery, where he gained extensive experience in robotic-assisted and laparoscopic surgery at top hospitals including the Royal Surrey County Hospital, St Peter's Hospital, and St George's Hospital. In 2015, he completed a Surgical Oncology and Colorectal Surgery fellowship in Melbourne, Australia, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Mr Rajendran has a wide range of clinical interests within colorectal surgery. His areas of expertise include robotic and laparoscopic lower GI surgery, colon cancer, rectal cancer, peritoneal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, laparoscopic ileoanal pouch surgery, and cytoreductive and HIPEC surgery.
Since his appointment, Mr Rajendran has been dedicated to advancing the field of colorectal surgery through both his clinical practice and academic contributions. His commitment to patient care and surgical innovation makes him a leading figure in his specialty.
