    Dr Peter Irving is a highly-experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist with specialist interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and other types of functional gut disorders, and endoscopy. He consults for a wide variety of conditions and is able to see patients presenting with a range of gastrointestinal symptoms.

    Dr Irving trained in Medicine at Cambridge University and The London Hospital Medical College, qualifying with distinction in 1995. He conducted his research at Bart's and The London Hospital Medical College on inflammatory bowel disease before moving to Australia for a further period of research. There he learned more about the low FODMAP diet, and subsequently introduced the diet to the UK. He was awarded an MD in 2006 for his thesis and research on IBD based at Queen Mary College, London.

    Dr Irving is regularly invited to speak at conferences and lectures on both a national and international level. He sits on the IBD committee for the British Society of Gastroenterology, and on several editorial boards. Together with dietetic colleagues at Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College London, he introduced the low FODMAP diet to the UK and continues to conduct research in this field. Overall he has over 100 publications and has published three books.
