Mr Pranav Somaiya is a consultant general and vascular surgeon based in London, working at Barts Health NHS Trust, one of Europe's largest hospital trusts. He has been serving in this role since 2017. Mr Somaiya specialises in a wide range of vascular conditions requiring both surgical and medical attention, including aortic, carotid artery, upper and lower limb arterial, lymphatic, and venous diseases. His special interests include stroke surgery and complications arising from diabetes.

Mr Somaiya is proficient in performing both open surgeries and minimally invasive (keyhole) therapies, such as aneurysm repairs and laser vein surgeries. He is also the Clinical Lead for the Surgical Skills Programme at the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSE), overseeing over 150 courses nationally and internationally. Additionally, he has been a tutor and examiner at the University of Sheffield, Kings College London, and the Charles Clifford Dental School in Sheffield.

In the realm of quality improvement, Mr Somaiya has initiated several projects across three NHS hospitals, significantly enhancing patient care. He established one of the UK's early One Stop Venous Clinics (OSVC) for managing varicose veins and has been a pioneer in integrating next-generation technology into NHS practices. His efforts have led to the creation of the Next Generation Surgical Clinics (NEGSC) and the use of QR codes for streamlining patient information.

Mr Somaiya's research contributions are notable, with a PhD in Medicine focusing on proteomics and microbial diagnostics. His work has led to the development of rapid diagnostic tests for various microorganisms, earning him patents in Europe and America. He has received multiple research grants and awards, including the Science Engineering and Technology award from the Houses of Parliament. His translational research laboratory was affiliated with UCL for five years, and his work has been featured in the Antibiotic Action UK campaign.
