Dr Rachael Hough: Consultant in Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation

Dr Rachael Hough is a distinguished Consultant in Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation at UCL Hospitals. She also serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Haematology/Transplantation at University College London (UCL).

Dr Hough completed her undergraduate training at Nottingham University in 1992. She then pursued postgraduate general medical and haematology training in Sheffield. Upon achieving specialist accreditation, she was awarded a two-year fellowship focused on the transplantation of umbilical cord blood. During this fellowship, she gained extensive experience in managing paediatric and adolescent patients. She also spent three months working with Professor John Wagner at the University of Minnesota, where she acquired specialist expertise in umbilical cord blood transplantation.

Currently, Dr Hough is the Clinical Lead of the largest teenage cancer service in the UK. She has developed a transplant practice specifically tailored to adolescents. Additionally, she established and chairs the British Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BSBMT) Umbilical Cord Blood Working Group. She is also the Chief Investigator of two NCRI-badged national cord blood transplant protocols.

Dr Hough's dedication to her field and her innovative approach to adolescent-focused transplant practices make her a leading figure in haematology and stem cell transplantation. She has been with UCL Hospitals since her appointment and continues to contribute significantly to both clinical practice and academic research.
