Dr Colaco: Leading Clinical Oncologist Specialising in Proton and Stereotactic Radiotherapy

Dr Colaco is a distinguished clinical oncologist at The Christie, renowned for his expertise in proton therapy and stereotactic radiotherapy. He trained in clinical oncology at The Christie before becoming the first UK doctor selected to train in proton therapy.

Dr Colaco spent 12 months at the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute, where he honed his skills in proton therapy. He then completed a year at Yale University in Connecticut, USA, as the first graduate of Yale's Stereotactic Radiotherapy fellowship. During his time at Yale, he specialised in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for brain metastases and extra-cranial stereotactic radiotherapy (SABR), utilising both Gamma Knife and CyberKnife technology.

An accomplished author, Dr Colaco has published several peer-reviewed manuscripts on stereotactic radiotherapy and proton therapy in international journals. He is also a sought-after speaker, having been invited to present at numerous international conferences on these subjects.

Upon his return to The Christie, Dr Colaco was appointed to a leading role in both the proton therapy and stereotactic radiotherapy programmes. He treats primary brain and spine tumours with both proton and X-ray therapy, and manages brain, bone, lymph node, and spinal metastases with stereotactic radiotherapy.

Dr Colaco is currently the co-chair for CNS and skull base tumours of the Particle Therapy Co-operative Group (PTCOG), which spearheads the development of proton therapy for brain and spine tumours worldwide. Additionally, as a member of the UK SABR consortium committee, he plays a pivotal role in advancing stereotactic radiotherapy (SABR) for spine and bone tumours nationally.

Dr Colaco's dedication to his field and his pioneering work in advanced radiotherapy techniques make him a leading figure in clinical oncology, both in the UK and internationally.
