Dr Shibani Nicum is a Consultant Medical Oncologist, specialising in ovarian and other gynaecological cancers. She is based at the Oxford Cancer Centre and also sees private patients at various hospitals, including in London. Dr Nicum graduated from Birmingham Medical School and completed her specialist oncology training at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. She has been serving in her role in Oxford since 2009.
Dr Nicum is the Lead Clinician for the Gynaecology Unit, the Oxford Multidisciplinary Team, and the Thames Valley Gynaecology Alliance Group. Her areas of expertise include BRCA mutated cancers and the development of new therapies for individualised care. She was awarded a national grant from Cancer Research UK to undertake laboratory-based research and received a DPhil from the University of Oxford in 2007.
In addition to her clinical roles, Dr Nicum is the Gynaecology Research Lead, responsible for translating laboratory advances into patient benefits. She is the Chief Investigator for the CRUK OCTOVA trial, the 6MP BRCA trial, and the upcoming ICON9 trial, and serves as the principal investigator for other novel agent trials. Dr Nicum is an active committee member of the UK National Cancer Research Institute Gynaecological Oncology and the Ovarian Cancer Clinical Studies Groups.
Dr Nicum regularly contributes to peer-reviewed journals and speaks at conferences. Her clinical interests include chemotherapy and immunotherapy, with a focus on treating ovarian and other gynaecological cancers.
