Place of primary qualification: University of Leeds
Dr. Vinnie Nambisan is a highly respected consultant in palliative medicine, currently serving at HCA UK facilities in London. He specialises in the multidisciplinary, holistic management of patients facing life-limiting illnesses, providing essential symptom control services even when treatments are aimed at a cure. His clinical interests include pain management and anticipatory care planning.
Dr. Nambisan earned his primary medical qualification from Leeds University, where he also completed a degree in Psychology in relation to Medicine. His passion for palliative medicine was ignited by witnessing the profound impact this type of care can have on patients' lives. He has extensive experience working in NHS hospitals, hospices, and community settings around London.
From 2014 to 2020, Dr. Nambisan led the in-house palliative care service at The London Clinic, where his leadership earned the service an 'outstanding' rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in 2017. In 2020, he transitioned to his current role at HCA, primarily based at The Harley Street Clinic, LOC (Leaders in Oncology Care), and The Wellington Hospital.
Dr. Nambisan collaborates closely with nursing, medical, and allied healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for patients with any underlying disease, whether cancerous or non-cancerous, at any stage of their illness. He has held senior clinical governance roles and maintains a keen interest in medical governance, ethics, and law, having completed a Masters degree in medical ethics and law in 2006.
In addition to his role at HCA, Dr. Nambisan works with the General Medical Council (GMC) in the fitness to practise directorate and serves as a specialist adviser in end-of-life care for the CQC. Outside of his professional commitments, he enjoys running, reading, and engaging in family life.
