About Mr David Bell
GMC number: 4338473
Year qualified: 1996
Place of primary qualification: University of Edinburgh
Mr David Bell is a Consultant Neurosurgeon specialising in neurospinal surgery, based at London Bridge Hospital. With a particular interest in complex spine surgery, his clinical work encompasses all complex disorders of the spine, including pain, trauma, and disease, excluding scoliosis. He divides his clinical practice between Kings College Hospital and his private practice at London Bridge Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK.
Mr Bell believes that most spinal disorders are self-limiting and do not require surgery. He prioritises nonsurgical treatments whenever possible. However, when surgical intervention is necessary, he is proficient in minimally invasive techniques. Mr Bell earned his medical degree in 1996 in Edinburgh, where he completed his Basic Surgical Training before moving to London for specialist training in Complex Spinal Neurosurgery. In 2008, he became a Complex Spinal Neurosurgeon at Kings College Hospital, London, where he served as the regional clinical lead for spinal cancer and trauma until 2020, setting exceptional standards of care.
From 2015 to 2021, Mr Bell was the Regional Network Lead for South East London and Kent and an executive member of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons. He also held the position of National Lead for the British Spinal Registry (BSR), a national quality improvement tool ensuring the quality of surgical care across the United Kingdom.
Mr Bell is a regular attendee and speaker at conferences both in the UK and internationally. He maintains an active medicolegal practice, acting as an expert witness with a focus on Cauda Equina Syndrome.
