    Dr Hoare is a highly experienced consultant gastroenterologist at St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College, where he has been serving since 2006. He completed his medical training at Cambridge University and St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, qualifying in 1993. Dr Hoare furthered his expertise by undertaking a PhD in molecular biology as an MRC research fellow from 1998 to 2001. His clinical training in gastroenterology included a significant attachment at St Mark’s Hospital, where he was the first Fujinon Advanced Endoscopy Fellow.

    With over 15 years of consultant experience, Dr Hoare has developed a broad interest and extensive experience in all aspects of gastroenterology. He emphasises accurate and thorough investigation combined with a holistic approach to therapy. Dr Hoare served as the Head of Endoscopy at St Mary’s and Imperial College Hospitals for 11 years and has held various regional leadership positions.

    Dr Hoare’s specialist endoscopic interests include the detection and treatment of early cancer in the gut, particularly the management of Barrett’s oesophagus and colonic polyps. He has a keen interest in investigating and treating the small bowel using video capsule endoscopy and balloon enteroscopy. Additionally, he specialises in swallowing and complex oesophageal disorders.

    As an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Academic Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College, Dr Hoare has made significant contributions to the field. His work on colonoscopy insertion technique earned him the “Marsha Dreyer” research award from the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 2015. He was also the senior author of the BSG National Guideline for Lower Gastrointestinal Bleeding in 2019 and has published over 35 peer-reviewed research papers on endoscopy and other aspects of gastroenterology.
