    GMC number: 4528544

    Year qualified: 1998

Place of primary qualification: University of London

Mr Shadi Ghali is a well known Plastic Surgeon with interests in microvascular breast reconstruction, and microvascular lower limb reconstruction following sarcoma excisions and trauma cases. He is also developing the abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR) service and has carried out a number of joint cases with the general surgeons. His surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, breast enhancement and body contouring are minimally invasive. In terms of complex oncological non-microvascular reconstructions, he has also carried out a number of pelvic, perineal and vaginal reconstructions following tumour excision by oncological surgeons. One of Mr Ghali's aims is to develop surgical lymphoedema management at the Royal free hospital with the introduction of microvascular lymphaticovenous bypass procedures to complement the vascular service and breast reconstruction service.

Mr Ghali undertook his training in FRCS (Plast) at University College Hospital, before pursuing specialist training in Texas, USA. The fellowship introduced him to a multidisciplinary approach to cancer patients and allowed him to work closely with other surgical disciplines. He received the James Barrett Brown Award for the best plastic surgery paper in 2008 and the Plastic Surgery Research Council award in 2007. He has since published numerous journal articles relating to plastic surgery and presented at the prestigious American Society of Plastic Surgeon’s conventions.

Mr Ghali is currently on the teaching faculty of the UCL MSc Plastic Surgery program based at the Royal Free and is responsible for organizing and delivering Pan-Thames teaching to Plastic Surgery trainees. He is also involved in weekly Journal club and teaching of trainees at the Royal Free hospital.
