Frequently asked questions

  • Why did you decide to become a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon ?

I was initially drawn to general surgery for its broad scope, and colorectal surgery stood out as a subspecialty where I could continue managing a wide range of procedures. I’ve had the privilege of working with some outstanding mentors in colorectal surgery, which reinforced my interest. Practicing privately gives me the opportunity to maintain excellent standards in a setting where I can offer patients the best possible environment and timely care.

  • What are the common symptoms that your patients tend to present with?

Patients often present with rectal bleeding, changes in bowel habits, and symptoms such as lumps or discomfort around the anal region. These concerns often need prompt investigation to ensure timely and appropriate treatment.

  • What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?

I offer a full range of diagnostic tests, including scans and endoscopic investigations. For those requiring surgery, I perform general colorectal procedures using open, laparoscopic or robotic techniques, depending on what is most appropriate for the patient.

  • What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?

My main subspecialist interest is in colorectal cancer - from diagnosis through to surgical treatment. I lead the colorectal cancer unit at a major hospital, which is one of the most prestigious in the field. In addition, I have a strong interest in managing common proctological conditions like haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas.
