    As an NHS consultant for University College London (UCL) Hospital, Dr Stuart Bloom is actively involved in the provision of acute gastroenterology (GI) and general medical care. He has cutting-edge expertise in endoscopy and has carried out over 8000 procedures in his rich career. Dr Bloom has a success rate of 95% in colonoscopy and his complication rate in such procedures is less than 0.1 %. Among the many coveted awards and honours that Dr Bloom has received for his services to gastroenterology are the Martin Wronker Prize from the University of Oxford, the Leslie Parrott Prize from the National Association of Crohn's and Colitis and the President's medal from the British Society of Gastroenterology. He regularly teaches at the Royal Free Hospital and University College London Medical School and has twice been cited as a 'valued teacher'. The Day Release Programme that Dr Bloom designed for North East Thames' trainees 'Day Release' Training in gastroenterology continues to be used even today. He is also the current chair of the UK Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Registry.

    Dr Bloom consults at the Platinum Medical Centre, Wellington Hospital, Physicians Clinic, Devonshire Street, and has admitting rights at King Edward VII Hospital and The London Clinic. He was appointed GI specialty lead for the central and east London comprehensive research network in March 2008, and is the current chair of the consultants' committee at UCLH. His medical interests include irritable bowel syndrome, bowel cancers, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, functional gut disorders, food intolerance, dyspepsia and general gastroenterology. As an industry expert, he is regularly involved in several departmental audits related to endoscopic gastrostomy.
